Genital warts

by AntBanks, Jul 10, 2002 12:00AM
ok i have posted questions before about genital warts, on the bottom left side of the penis right around where the pubic hair begins i got these small bumps and they are greyish or dark colored and there is more then one, when i 1st got it last fall it started off as one but i kept ripping them off, now when i ripped it off it did bleed a little the skin would then heal and go back to normal with no scarring at all, but these bumps kept coming back, it starts off looking like a little bubble then grows into a grey bump, as i kept taking them off they would come back as just one in different areas, now for the 1st time it came grouped together very clustered, so i had it looked at by an std dr. he said it was warts, so he treated it and it did nothing, so i went back and he treated it again and it did nothing, now i even notice it in the pubic hair area, so he said go to a dermatologist and get it biopsied because it might not be warts, so i went to a derm. and he said warts and wouldnt biopsy it, his treatment didnt work neither, so he said he will surgically remove them, but i dont want to remove something that may not be warts so my questions is 1. by me taking it off myself could i have ,ade whateva it is worst in appearence 2. how do i go about getting a test done to see if it is warts 3. even though it may look like a wart are these things often misdiagnosed, because this is gettin quite frustrating that nothing is working
Thank You

I can't be sure from your description whteher these are warts or just cysts you're traumatizing.

I you were my patient, I would ask you to leave the bumps alone so as not to confuse the issue, and then if they reoccurred I would perform a biopsy of a fresh bump.  We rarely biopsy warts--that's why your dermatologist didn't want to--but in your case, you need a definitive response, and a biopsy will most likely give you that.

If the biopsy shows they aren't warts, I would strongly urge you to forget about the bumps and leave them alone.  Many bumps are more trouble to remove than to keep.

Best.
