Got Test back

Got Test back

I hope you are doing fine and Merry Christmas.   I got my test results back, and it was  Tinea Cruris "PAS positive for Dermatophytes."   The Doctor stated that because of I, being an adult and having white tongue and rash that it  might have HIV.  A lot of people with HIV have white tongue and rash.   I told him that I took a HIV test at the following times:

ICMA HIV 1/0/2  Test 5 months and two weeks Negative
Elisa HIV Test  13 weeks Negative
Pro vial PCR  DNA Test 10 weeks Negative
Elisa HIV Test 10 weeks Negative
Elisa HIV 2 Test 10 weeks Negative
Elisa HIV Test  5 weeks Negative

He stated that I needed to take another one at 6 months.   He stated that my immune system is weak because I have this fungus since  five months ago.   The Doctor also stated that the Fungus couldn't alter the test.  Could  Fungus make the HIV false negative or the disease he thinks I have?  What other viral infections or diseases that I could have that is making the fungus to stay.  A little history it started in mid July 2010.   Someone placed lotion which then within 20 minutes started to tingle for several days on my penis head and scrotum.  Then it began to burn hard.  It didn't go away for four days.  (you can read prior post) I had a headache, sore throat,  nausea, felt of vomiting.  The nausea continued for three weeks.   The sore throat for two months.  The headache continued for a month and stopped except for the rashes on my penis and scrotum and now my thigh which is current.  I heard that HIV systems last for only 14 days.   Thank for taking the time to answer my questions.

Welcome again to the Dermatology Expert Forum! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you.

Continuous and/or recurrent infections, if unresponsive to treatment, always indicate that immune system is weak and for whatever reason suppressed. However, you were not really treated for fungal infection, right?! Both topical (clotrimazole, ketokonazole, etc.) and systemic options are available, and should be quite effective if used properly and for long enough period of time.

To answer your other questions:
1. Fungal infection could not alter your HIV testing results.
2. If, based on your prolonged fungal infection, there is a suspicion that your immune system is compromised, that should be diagnostically closely looked into starting with full blood exam.
3. Even though your tests indicate that you have not acquired HIV virus, performing another test at 6 month would be the final conformation for your doctor (and you) so focus can be moved, if needed, to other options (autoimmune disorders, allergic diseases, malignancies, etc.).

Wishing You Optimal Health,
Dr. Jasmina Jankicevic
