Groinal itch with no rash or visual signs

I've had a really bad itch in my groinal area (between base of scrotum to anal cavity, not spreading to thighs) for about 5 weeks now.  I haven't been able to see any sign of a rash.  At first I thought it was jock itch so I started using Micatin (anti-fungal powder spray).  It helps relieve the itch and helps keep it dry, but I've been using it for 3 weeks now with no improvement.  I just got back from the dermatologist and the lady that saw me was an assistant of some sort.  She couldn't figure out what it was, since she couldn't visually see anything to indicate a problem.  I was also there for some slight red markings on my left cheek that I've had for about 7 months.  She didn't know what that was either and she just gave me steroid cream for both problems (haven't tried it yet since I just got back).  I'm most concered with the groinal itch, since it's in a very inconvienient place and not improving at all.  The area that itches can sometimes be moist or sweaty, so I have been thinking maybe it is some kind of fungus.  However, with no rash or improvement with the antifungal spray I've been taking, I'm at a loss on what else it could be.  It doesn't bother me most of the day, when I'm moving around and the area is dry, but if I end up driving or sitting for a while, it can get really bad.  Any help would be extremely appreciated!

If there's no visible rash, it's not likely to be a fungus.  It's probably just chafing and irritation.  I'd use powder, wear loose-fitting clothes, and nonmedicated moisture lotions.  An over-the-counter anti-itch preparation containing pramozine or menthol may also help--ask your druggist to recommend one.  If the symptoms persist, I guess you'll need to see the doctor.
