Growth under skin, right palm

Hello,
I have an extremely hard growth the skin of my right palm. My doctor told me more than a year ago that it was probably just a cyst and to not worry. It has grown/spread from the pinky and third finger, to almost where the palm meets the hand. It is about 1/2 inch wide and very hard - does not move when prodded. There is no give to it whatsoever. I have full use of my hand/fingers, but am concerned that this is getting larger and may impact my health in some way. I am a teacher, work around the yardetc., so it is not calloused. I had an appendectomy many years ago, and this feels just like the scar tissue - no sensation! What should I do? Bob

Hi,
This could be a bone growth or a ganglion cyst.A ganglion cyst  is a swelling that often appears on or around joints and tendons in the hand or foot. The size of the cyst can vary over time, often becoming more inflamed if irritated. It is most frequently located around the wrist and on the fingers.
Ganglia are especially common in people who perform repetitive or strenuous activity with the wrist. If a ganglion cyst is symptomatic, it can be managed by aspiration or excision.
A bone growth can be excised. You should consider getting it removed before it begins to impede the use of your fingers.
