HELP!!!

by bmav, Apr 21, 2008 11:28AM
My wife and I first noticed hundreds of small bumps (1mm or smaller) that seemed to have suddenly appeared all over the backs of my son's hands about a week ago.  The bumps are numerous and densely packed.  Upon further examination we have noticed clusters on his toes and elbows.  These bumps are also present in less density on his arms up to his elbows and legs below the knees.  Our doctor is puzzled and told us to monitor the spread of these tiny bumps.  These bumps are skin colored when the skin is taught but appear more white when the skin folded and made more loose.  These bumps are not fluid filled and they don't appear to be flat on top although some appear to have a slight divet in the center.  My son has NOT exhibited any abnormal irritability due to this condition.  There is NO associated redness or inflamation (inflammation), itchiness, tenderness, dryness or flaking.  At the present time there are no bumps in the vicinity of his face and there are no bumps on the palms of his hand or the bottoms of his feet.  What could this condition be?

WHAT WAS THIS!?!?!?! Was it ever diagnosed? I see no follow-ups to anyones story.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Reading through the description that you have given here, it appears that the condition on your sons body could be Molluscum Contagiosum.

It is an infectious condition caused by a virus and usually goes away in a couple of weeks time with no treatment at all. However, the final diagnosis should be made by a dermatologist and you must take your child to one immediately. There are only few cases where a complication may arise, but its better to be safe.

In case you need more information, you may see:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molluscum

Hop this helped.
Let us know if you may need more information.

Best regards,
