HPV Exposure

Dr. Rockoff,

First off thank you for your service, in August 12, of 2006 my friend and I shared a partner.
I knew she was high risk so I used a condom, but after going flaccid I made one attempt to go in unprotected then stopped, and washed myself.

I heard that she had warts and I frantically checked myself. About four days after this happened I noticed some small lesions when I spread the foreskin apart (I am circumcised) otherwise unnoticeable. A doctor at the health dept told me it looked like a small white head (but it doesn't pop) and is smaller or close to the size of a pin head. The other looks like a nick in the skin had a pore in the middle. (Possible follicle) She was not concerned and did not feel a biopsy was needed.

I went to two other nurse practitioners they said that they were not warts and one told me I could still have the virus but what I had was not warts.

My family doctor sent me to the urologist who looked at the lesions and he said he doesn't think they are warts but can't be 100%, he did a follow up to see if there was anything to biopsy and since I was fresh from the shower neither him nor I could see them.  Later in the day I saw it because of the oils on the skin gained throughout the day.

I wouldn't be that concerned but my friend ended up getting warts that he noticed a couple days after having sex with this same women.  I looked at his and they actually looked like typical warts but small.  Is this a miracle? My urologist will be seeing me again in 3 months it is now October 2006.  Should I have a biopsy done, at first I put this behind me but since I have not been able to stop researching the subject the fear is coming back.  Do you have any suggestions, also could I be infected and two days later pass it on. I had two partners since and I told them to get checked, I really just want to put this behind me is there any avenues I missed? Could I be lucky enough to be the 1/3 that does not become infected? Also does HPV cause internal symptoms, cause I felt warming in the genitals and a mild itch but I had known I had been exposed and I was hyper aware of my groin area.  Might be in my head, but never felt like that after sex.  It s hard for me to think it is a big coincidence with the marks on my penis  If possible could u e-mail me at ***@****
Thanks (hoping I dodged a bullet)

Mike

The incubation period for warts is measured in months, not days.  If your friend indeed developed warts, they would have been from partners far longer ago.  Also, what you describe on yourself doesn't sound like warts.  Also, the doctors you've seen also didn't think they look like warts.  All together, these point to the strong likelihood that you don't have warts.  HPV causes no internal symptoms, but worrying about warts does.  I think you've gone down all the necessary avenues.

Take care.
