Hair loss from straightening

by brocky1, Feb 21, 2007 12:00AM
I have been getting my hair straightened with a mild straightner  (Framesi) for 10 years.  I also get my hair colored.  I just noticed for the first time, a bald spot underneath my hair in the back (near the hair line).  My hair is very thick and shoulder lenghth, so you cannot see it normally.  I am going to discontinue getting my hair straightened, but is there anything else I can do to get the hair to come back?

Hair loss from straightening is generally diffuse.  A localized spot of hair loss is most likely a condition called alopecia areata.  The kind of spot you describe will most likely grow back by itself in a few months.  Of course, for definitive diagnosis you'll need to see a doctor in person.

Best.
