Hemorrhoid surgery and skin tags

I had hemrhoid surgery the end of April and was in the WORST pain of my life---I have not returned to work yet, it is that bad.  The MD said I had 2 VERY large internal ones and one large external one.  I still am having alot of pain when going to the bathroom and still have blood in the toliet.  I am using the Sitz bath throughout the day along with Tucks and have been taking stool softners and drinking alot of water.  At my last check, the surgeon stated that I was healing ok, but was startng to form skin tags---It still feels like I have a hemorrhoid sticking out down there.  Now she says I may need more surgery to remove the skin tag!  Yesterday I went to work just for a staff meeting--2 hours later, after sitting in a cushy chair on top of a pillow, I could hardly walk and today I feel like someone spent the night kicking me in the behind. The skin tag is swollen today and sore.  Anybody got any experience with this?  I am terrified to have the skin tag removal (which will be done in the operating room with a spinal epidural like the hemorrhoid surg was per the MD)---I don't want to go through that amount of pain again. Thanks!

I feel like I just have to post my experience! I am a 25 yo female that suffered from what I thought was a persistent, external hemorrhoid, for 9 years. Mostly no pain from this, just irritating and some embarrassment! A couple weeks ago I was in excruciating pain as I was constipated and the "hemorrhoid" developed an open sore that was very uncomfortable. So, I ended up making an appointment with the colorectal surgeon. After she examined me (which didn't even end up being THAT embarrassing), she told me that this was actually a residual skin tag, and she could easily remove that in the office. I let her know that I even had to return to work that day, and she thought with Tylenol that I should be okay. From what I have read on this website and others, I was TERRIFIED that I was going to be in excruciating pain that would not go away, and that bowel movements would feel like expelling razors. I had by that point worked myself up so much, I was preparing for the worst! My experience, however, was TOTALLY different, and thats why I felt compelled to share. When I was in the office, the procedure took all of 7 minutes, and the lidocaine shot was NOT that bad. It stung, but again, not terrible! I never felt a thing, didn't even realize it was over! This skin tag was LARGE, too, about the size of the tip of my pointer finger! I never experienced any bleeding after the initial bleeding, post-surgery. While my butt was sore, it was not unbearable, and I found with Tylenol that it was manageable. I was glad to take the Tylenol as I've been told that other medications can constipate you. I even worked that day, and the rest of the week without incident. I found that it hurt more when I was sitting at home "resting" because I was thinking about it more frequently than when I was distracted at work! Overall, my pain may have been a 4-5 at its very worst. My bowel movements were also a PIECE of cake. I was sure to eat lots of veggies and drink smoothies, and I also took Miralaax every day to keep my stools soft. That is VERY important. You don't want them hard (its painful) or runny (thats painful, too!). Yesterday was one week post my procedure and I am completely without pain and discomfort. I am SO glad that I had it done, I can go back to normal and not ever have to be embarrassed by it again. I hope this helps others be brave!

Hi I had 2 surgeries to remove hemorroid, i was constantly constipated and after my first baby i had the rubber band done 3 times IT DOES NOT WORK WAIST OF TIME AND ENERGY..then I had my first surgery and I think the Doc did a bad job (half fast) I went home and imedialy saw that it was 2 balls hanging outside my anus when they were not there before.. so the next visit the doc said "WOW we will have to do it again it still there " (hellow he knew he did a mistake). 4 months later i went to a second surgeon that did the laser surgery for hemorroids, he did do the surgery , but left me with a deformed but and horrific one... just so my hemorroids would come back, wich i found out 6 years later that i had rectocele what caused my hemorrids to be cronic.. so I just had the Recotcele surgery 4 weeks ago and now I ask my other doctor to remove the skin tags... THE DOC TOLD ME IT WILL BE EXTREM PAIN AND THAT I MAY HAVE THE ANAL CANAL NO GET TIDER AND BE DIFICULT TO EVACUATE  - HE SAID IT IS ONE OF MOST COMMUN SIDE EFFECTS TO SKIN TAG REMOVAL- NARROW OF THE ANUS ...  DID ANYONE HAD THAT? I CAN NOT HAVE ANY DIFFICULT TO PASS STOOLS OR MY RECOTCELE WILL REOCUR, SO I STILL WILL REMOVE THIS TAGS, AS I AM AN EXTREMELLY SEXUAL PERSON AND I M DIVORCED AND CAN NOT GO OUT AND HAVE SEX BECAUSE IT IS SO EMBARASSING TO HAVE THIS SKIN TAGS HANGING IN THERE ... I THINK ANY MAN WILL GET SCARE , UNLESS HE S YOUR HUSBAND FOR YEARS  LOL, WELL DOES ANYONE KNOW IF AFTER SKIN TAG REMOVAL IT NARROWS THE ANUS AND MAKE DIFFICULT TO PASS STOLLS??? THE PAIN I CAN DEAL WITH AFTER 2 HEMORROIDS SURGERY AND A RECTOCELE AND HYSTERECTOMY.. I THINK I CAN DEAL WITH IT ;) MY SURGERY WILL BE ON NEXT WEEK..
THANK YOU

Hi

I understand how difficult this is for you. The surgery was done only recently (is this correct?). Pain should be expected until the swelling and inflammation have subsided. At this point, skin tags do not necessarily need immediate intervention. However, if there is any irritation or swelling noted concerning these skin tags then your surgeon may opt to remove them.

I suggest that you seek referral to a pain management specialist. Are you taking adequate pain medications for these? If the skin tags are causing the pain then they may have to be removed.
