, which was my first diagnosis - inflamed and infected corner of the flesh under one corner of the nail. After a while this started to ooze with transparent fluid, which i would have to drain several times a day. Eventually after a few weeks of cleansing it seemed to go away, but only only for a while. It recurrs again and again since then, but looking more like an absess (abscess) or very small blisters along the nail's tip. Now lasting for more than 6-8 weeks a time, it feels slightly number about a week before onset, and having been given a second diagnosis of herpes whitlow I use acyclovir 5% topically as soon as possible. I have not had the blisters for more than half a year, but the entire tip of the thumb secretes somthing like sweat
. I have seen 3 dermatologists but I don't feel that they are confident with the herpes diagnosis themselves. I don't have cold-sores, I am not immuno-suppressed (as far as I can tell) but I did go through a bout of mono during this period, though still after full recovery
that could be related - first diagnosis was fungal second was allergic contact dermatitis - reacts well to corticosteroids but wont completely go away (It returns when stopping the steroid course). Could my finger be a case of dishydrosis? what else could this be and how can I find out for sure? every time I get pink-eye I get scared stiff it could be occular herpes from cross-infection.Has anyone had any experience with anything similar to my sweaty misdiagnosed finger? Any insight would be most appreciated!
