The doctor who saw you sounds right about both the fact that what you had doesn't sound like herpes and that indirect transmission is rare.  Also, you can't spread herpes from one part of the body to another.  (If you could, everyone with oral cold sores would be covered with herpes.)

I think you probably have dolliculitis, which is not tied to HSV.  I think you noticed it now because you're looking very hard.

My advice is to forget about it.  If you ever get blisters on the penis that scab over, that would be the time to see a doctor again.

Take care.

Hi there.  the same thing happened to me.  I thought I caught herpes from my partner because I got a bump on my vagina and I've never had unprotected sex, but I had unprotected oral sex.  But, I went to the doctor and he told me it was an ingrown hair.  But, after reading that you can catch herpes from oral sex,  I started to get completely paranoid, checking my private area constantly.  And, I felt itching - but, it's just your mind playing tricks on you.  It's been a year since the incident, and I never developed anymore bumps and so my worry is gone that I could have caught something from that one partner.  And my advice to you is to stop worrying as it is going to drive you crazy!
