Herpes Question

First my background, I have only been with one partner for the last 2 yrs.  Prior to that I did have a one night stand with un-protected sex once in my life.  I am fairly certain my current girlfriend is disese (disease) free.  Last week I noticed 2 small red bumps that looked some what like pimples.  They never realy hurt or had much feeling and about 5 days later a small scab did apear.  After the intial first 5 days a couple more bumps apeared each day. All the bumps were in a row almost but never clustered together or right next to each other. I never saw any puss and they evently shrunk and a small scab (the size of a pin head or smaller) I never had any flu like symptoms, the first 2 never hurt, but after a few more appeared I felt some slight discomfort but nothing to bad.  

Is it possible to have contracted herpes over two years ago with no out breaks until now?  I should also mention I have been having unprotected sex with my girl friend for 2 years and she has never had anything like this?  Please help!!
