I am experiencing severe dryness and itchiness around the head of my penis a year ago. Initially, the doctor indicated that it was something like thrush and prescribed Daktakort. The problem went away. A little while later, it reappeared but this time without any itchiness. My foreskin when rolled back reflects a very dry head of my penis with white substance around the head (like smegma). I have traditionally had skin problems for the last 10 years (psoriasis) but never experienced anything like this. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hello doctor, I just need to know. I was sexually active with a herpes infected women some years ago for about year an even though i took precautions
i fear I may be infected. I did take a test 2 years ago and they came back negative. Now I do have a small red bump on the underside of my penis just below the head. It is one single bump and it has been itchy or painful, just recently the bump developed into what looked like dry skin, then the skin broke and i am left with a red shiny area.

on a different concern I have also had a rash on the base of my penis which also looks like dry skin but it has no visible bumps. This rash has been there for 3 months and has become quite annoying, Ive tried a variety of moisturisers but nothing helps.

Anyway you can help me.

hello doctor, at the age of puberty, i began growing a series of white dot-like warts around the ring of my head. at first i was scared that it was herpes, but i looked at herpes photos and they were really different. Also, i have had herpes on my nose and have an outburst every year. Can my penis be filled with herpes?

Bumps near the corner of the lip are usually not herpes.  Once again, please get them looked at rather than jumping to conclusions.

Showed my doctor, and you are, of course and as usual, right. he looked at it, said it looked like a pimple and some sort of fatty deposit, and squezed it out amd applied betadine.
i'm impressed at how you are able to make these calls online. your $19 "fee" is only $4 more then my $15 copay plus half a day of from work just to get this type of worry alleviated! so thanks, for your service.
just our of curiosity, how were you able to determine that the two very close growths (though it turned out to really just be one zit- the red and the whitehead) plus the other 2 "zits" each an inch or so way did not sound like herpes? from reading your previous posts it sounded like this could have been a "cluster". how did you determine that it was not.

also, i have a uunrelated question i hope you can answer. i often get one or two very close zits (or three) right in the corner/edge of my lip that returns every now and then, they also seeem "zitty", but with the amount of kissing i have done combined with the location and the fact that it often turns reddish and doest completely heal for at least 10 days (and even then you can see the reddish remnants for wuite some time on the flattening skin) i suspect this is herpes. my sister suffered from herpes even as a small child but a much worse case then me (she often gets it on her forehead and it has beena persistent problem). And i have surely kissed her on the forehead over the years. does this sound like herpes, dr.? Also, we  have a 1 yr old nephew-- is it dangerous for her to be coming in close contact with him when she has an outbreak?

Thanks,

Sam

I do not think any of these changes are those of herpes.  Perhaps they represent irritation.  Please leave them alone and show them to a doctor.  Thanks so much.

If there is a hair growing out of it, then it's probably a blocked follicle and not herpes.  I suggest you should see a doctor and get a specific diagnosis.  meantime, please leave the area alone so it can be properly evaluated.

Best.

Sorry, i accidentally hit the enter key which submitted my question too early. i shall re-paste it--

Hi Dr. Rockoff,
I am back. I asked you several months ago about a pimple-like growth on my penis that seems to have a hair coming out if it. At other times i have other pimple-like growths in my pubic area, sometimes an inch a way from each other, sometimes popping up at different times. they didnt really hurt or itch. and im not sure what the definition of a "blister" is, but they seemed more like pimples. i was relieved to hear that my symptoms did not sound like herpes as i believe all or most of these "zits" had a hair coming out of the center of it. i have never had sexual intercourse and have only twice (years ago) has oral sex. never do i recall a true cluster of blisters nor anything painful like that in my genitals.

But today i noticed something very disturbing on the underside of my penis. it is a reddish bump with a white tip. it does not hurt or itch. about 3/4 of an inch away, also on my penis is a tiny tiny reddish bump, also with what appears to be a tinty white tip. neither has a haor growing out of it. about an inch away from both these growths is an even tinier pimple-like growth with a hair in its center. there is no rash underlying any of these growths, nor pain nor itching. but i never before recall seeing three growths on my penis at one time. it has been a full year and a half since i have received oral sex and i have NEVER had intercourse. could this be herpes or constitute  a "cluster" of blisters? the first bump i described definitely looks like it has some fluid in it-- red and white at the tip. but not much different then many pimples i have had in my life. also, does the far proximity to my sexual activity cast doubt on the possibility that its herpes? i have found isolated one-pimple lile groeths in this area before. inly a few months ago in fact, but like i said, it had a hair growing out of the white spot which this one does not have growing out of the white spot. only the thrd one, an inch away, does.

Please advise!!

Thanks,

Sam

on closer expection today, the one main bump seems to be really 2 bumps-- a small whitehead which at first looked to be the tip of the red bump, but today the red bump isself lokos a bit raised and reddish and even a drop reddish and fluidy, to the point that it may actually be a two small pimply bumps right next to each other. the drying whitehead part and the reddish fluidy part seems to almost have merged. now i am really scared that it is herpes. i have two pimply things right next to each other, a pimply reddish bump, merging with a pimply whitish bump. if i pull and stretch the reddish part, i can see it becomes whitish too.
