Hives, swelling

by Bitsy, Jul 28, 2001 12:00AM
For the past two weeks I have been suffering with hives and swelling. It has always manifested in one area at a time. Starting with one foot, then the other, in one hand/arm and then the other. I can't understand what brought it on. I just woke up one morning and there it was. I haven't changed anything in my lifestyle that would have caused this alergic (allergic) reaction.
I did read one posting on hives which could have been caused by sinus infections. I have been having sinus problems over the past few weeks. Could this be my problem also?
I did take pictures of my hand and arm that could be downloaded to you if you would like.

Hives are intermittent itchy red swellings that come and go for days to weeks.  In most cases, no specific cause is found.  Sinus infections are often implicated, with little evidence.  I would suggest that you confirm the diagnosis with a physician.  Meantime, topical anti-itch lotions (Sarna, Caladryl) and oral antihistamines (Benadryl) should help.

Best.
