Hives and spots

Hives and spots

I've had what I assume are hives for the last 2 weeks. The hives have been red, raised, very itchy, round-ish, burning, stinging spots that disappear within 24-48 hours. Benadryl has helped the itching. I've been unable to identify a source for an allergic reaction and have assumed it to be viral. Now I'm starting to see dark splotches (not round) that stand out in odd places like my thigh or face.  They don't hurt or itch, and are not raised, just bright.  They disappear within 24 hours.  Are these splotches related to hives?  I've never had hives for more than a few hours so this is all new to me.  I haven't seen a doctor since for the $50 co-pay I can tell myself to take Benadryl. Can anyone help me out?  Thanks.
