Hives question

by Revil, Aug 02, 2005 12:00AM
For the past week I have been waking up with hives on my legs only. After I get out of the shower they are more prominent but usually they are completely gone by 10:00 A.M.
I never get them during the day, only upon waking. I also have vitilgo on my legs and wonder if there is any relationship there. As far as I know I have not introduced anything new in my diet. The bedding has been completely replaced thinking it may have something to do with that but to no avail. Should I see a doctor or is there probably no real answer?

Hives are not related to vitiligo.  They are usually not allergic, and in fact no cause is ever found most of the time.  I suggest that you treat the symptoms with an antihistamine needing no prescription like Benadryl or Claritin, and that you ask your doctor to help evaluate them if they persist.

Best.

I too have developed hives after taking Fluoxetine. I went to an allergist who said the hives could not be from the Fluoxetine, but that is the only thing different in my life in the past month. He put me on a daily dose of a 24 hour antihistamine, but this only helps for about 10 hours and then as soon as I go to bed at night, the hives are back. They seem to be getting worse as well. Yesterday my entire face was covered with them and my right eye was completely swollen shut. Today my hands are so swollen I can barely use them. The hives seem to be covering my entire body, but one area is definitely more affected per day. I am very frustrated, as the doctors don't seem to care and just brush off hives as something that nothing can be done about.
