Holes/Indentions in Skin

by justmeonline, Jun 18, 2002 12:00AM
Hi there!
I noticed I had a dark brown spot in the center of my "top" pubic hair area (not around the vaginal area), and I am quite prone to moles so I assumed it was also.  I believe I noticed it a couple weeks ago, at least a week. Well, after closer examination and messing with it,I picked it out and was a scab.  It was dark brown on top and lighter colored underneath (kinda light yellowy).  Underneath it is just a hole, almost like a large pore, but more shallow.  It isn't bleeding or anything and is regular skin colored.  Looks like someone just took a small chunk out of my skin.  Well, I noticed underneath it was another hole, not with a scab or anything, just another small chunk.  These aren't ulcers or anything and they don't hurt.  They look like either enlarged hair follicles or somewhere I cut myself shaving that left a scar--but an indented one, not a raised one.
I do have itching from time to time in that area, but everywhere, due to the hair I think.  It looks like these are here to stay as they are normal skin, they look a little brown inside around some of the edge, like maybe a hair may grow there or something.  The scab just kind of scared me because herpes does that. But I have heard that herpes' scabs are yellow??
I guess I just want to know if this is something bad..and you have been so helpful to me in the past.

Thanks so much

It sounds as though you have extracted a blackhead--that's just an enlarged pore with dark, sebaceous material.  (These occur off the face.)  If there's a scab, it's probably just secondary to scratching or examining the area.

Next time you see your gynecologist, ask him or her to check.  There's probably nothing worth doing--the material just builds up again, and surgery would be really unnecessary.  But it certainly doesn't sound like herpes.

Best.
