Hot tub Spots

Hot tub Spots

Hi, I have recently purchased a hot tub. Over the last few days I have noticed large red spots in my groin area, under my arms and especially where I wrap the towel around me when I vacate the pool. The spots are about pea size and seem to be forming yellow heads. I also have one in my ear, eye and on the sole of my foot. I visited my GP yesterday and he thought that they may be bites of some sort. I have avoided the hot tub for 3 days now but the spots are continuing to appear. Can you please advise?

Kind regards
Dav

Hello,
From the symptoms, it sounds like hot tub folliculitis. It is an infection of the hair follicle with Pseudomonas bacteria and is most commonly seen in people who bathe in a contaminated spa, swimming pool, or hot tub.

I would suggest that you apply calamine lotion and a simple antimicrobial cream like Bactroban or Neosporin on the rash and keep the area clean. For the itching antihistaminics like Benadryl can be taken. If the symptoms persist then topical steroids and oral antibiotics may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case.

I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
