How long can symptons last from poloymorpic light eruption?

by GrammaK, Oct 24, 2008 11:20AM
Three years ago, I was diagnosed by a dermatologist with PMLE and prescribed LidaMantle lotion, which really did not give any relief from the burning and itching.  I first experienced PMLE in my late 30's, but the symptoms were mild and infrequent.  I am now in my mid 60's and spend my winters in the FL Keys or Arizona with only mild flairups, quickly subsiding after polonged sun exposure (crusting occured).  My summers are spent on a lakeshore in Michigan, but sun exposure comes and goes with the weather.  After having an uneventful summer regarding outbreaks, in September, following an unusually long weekend of intense sun, I experienced an outbreak.  This is the latter part of October and even though I have not been in the sun, since that weekend in early September, the rash, itching and burning are raging.  It is consuming my days.  Is this unusual for it to last so long, or is there a chance my diagnosis was incorrect?  Also, the symptoms (burning & itching) seem to escalate when I am relaxed and not preoccupied with a task.  Is there a reason for that?  I am really in more discomfort then I have ever been in the past,  therefore am I to conclude this disorder becomes worst as you age?

Go to CVS pharmacy.  Buy a tube (about $30) of Anthelios SX by LaRoche-Posay.  It has saved my life.  I have suffered for over 30 years with PMLE, this works by blocking the UV-A rays of the sun.  Don;t worry about the SPF factor, it does not matter.  This will work.  send me a note at ***@**** if you have any questions.
