I Have Skin Problems: Rashes and Splits

by Dermatology_Problems, Sep 04, 2005 12:00AM
I’ve 4-problems & I think they are related but my ex-wife doesn’t

1. A rash b/w the butt cheeks around which began 6/6 & persists still
2. A split above the anus (base of butt crack) which began around 6/6. Happens once & a while but usually only lasts a week & self resolves
3. Deep split lip on right side of mouth which began 8/21 & persists now for 2-weeks.  This also happens a lot but usually self resolves.  Particularly difficult to treat this time
4. Split toe b/w the pinky toe & fourth toe which began around 8/21 persisted for 2-weeks but self resolved. This also happens a lot but usually self resolves.  Always occurs b/w the same 2-toes. Always

RASH
Rash is a new problem

I noticed the discomfort while sitting. I looked & saw a bright-red, smooth rash NOT involving the anus.  No blisters or scabs.  I first though it was a ‘diaper rash’ & tried using a rash cream (2-wks w/no effect)

Next thought it was psoriasis.  I’ve a hx of plaque psoriasis, which I’ve had for over 15-yrs (I assumed I was experiencing the inverse form).  My psoriasis steroid cream seemed to be working.  The rash is still there but not nearly as bad

The rash seems to be getting more irritated again but I also started using an anti-fungal spray because my ex (3rd year med student) though it was a fungal infection

The next problem my ex has never heard of & if I look online all I find is AIDS related conditions.  I had my most recent HIV test less than four months ago (May) & it was negative.  I’ve let a girl perform oral sex on me since that test but that is all. I still worry about STDs

BUTT SPLIT
1or2 wks after the rash began I developed a split, just like a split lip, at the base of the butt cheeks above the anus (where the skin stretches when you sit).  It is always a fairly deep fissure & I notice it when I sit on the toilet

I’ve been getting this for about 5years but never thought anything of it.  My ex has made me nervous by saying she never heard of it!  Any ideas?  I’ve tested negative for HIV 4-times in the past 4-years with only 1 exposure post test which was 1.5 to 2 weeks before these symptoms showed up.  This happens & usually goes away on its own

SPLIT LIP
I get split lips on the RT side of my mouth a lot.  Probably a few times/yr (a deep fissure at the RT side of mouth touching the lip but off to the side).  I’ve been getting these for a long time.  My ex thinks I may be zinc or B6 deficient

This doesn’t usually persist this long (usually treatable within a few of days but this keeps splitting)

TOE SPLIT
Like my other splits, this is a straight deep fissure that always splits b/w the same 2-toes (b/w the pinky & fourth toe)

My ex believes this to be athletes’ foot but why then does it recur only b/w the same toes?

SUMMARY
Do you think these are all related?  My ex thinks they’re not & that they’re all separate fungal infections or vitamin deficiencies

Of course I’m paranoid that these are STD related
Thanks!

No, I don't think they are all related.  I don't think they're all fungus or vitamin deficiencies either.

Your butt split may be psoriasis, since psoriasis affects that area, but it may just be a fissure (crack.)  I don't know what the butt rash is.  The split lip is probably angular stomatitis, cracking caused by saliva buildup and sometimes yeast from the GI tact.  The toe split could be athlete's foot (fungus) but may also be just a fissure (crack.)

Instead of asking your ex-wife, I recommend you ask a doctor in person.

Take care.
