I need help to make the decision

I am a woman of 35 currenlty living in Isreal. I started itching and blotching  some 2 weeks ago. Tried taking avil.25mg for 5 days but there was no relief, consulted a general physician on  7th sep. He diagnosed it as urticaria and prescribed fexofenadine hcl 180 mg. After 4 days of this medicine, there was no help..and there were more blotches and too very itchy ,so consulted a dermatologist. He diagnosed it as a condition of chronic urticaria after analysing the history. I had a similar problem 2 months back and it took almost a month to settle and there were two other times. Once a year back and again in last Dec. The dermatologist prescribed prednisone 20 mg per day to start with for five days and gradually tapered down to 5mg per day reducing 5 mg once in 5 days. So that the dose would run for 25 days. However I have not taken this steroid after reading on the net about it. There were many cases where people say that the symptoms vanish dramatically only to return after the course of prednisone is over and with more vigor. And I also read that prednisone treated urticaria is kind of resisistant to any other kind of therapy and that it makes you dependant on it and as we all know steroids cant be taken as long term medication. Now what do I do ?
