I popped a purplish-whitish boil, any severe side effects with it?

When I was just going through puberty I had what seemed to be a purplish-whitish boil. At that time I had no idea what it was, so I spent maybe around two months trying to pop it. I finally popped it and  all the pus and stuff came out, but nothing has happened after that occurance. Did I just cause a problem in the near future for me? Will I have any bad side effects in the long run? What did I expose myself to when I did that?
