All clothes, bedding, and towels used by the infested person during the 3 days before treatment should be washed in hot water and dried in a hot dryer. A second treatment of the body with the same cream or lotion may be necessary.
Once away from the human body, mites usually do not survive more than 48-72 hours. When living on a person, an adult female mite can live up to a month.

Itching may continue for 2-3 weeks, and does not mean that you are still infested.
You could take some antihistamine medications for the itching and apply calamine lotion at the sites to help soothe the lesions.
