If not Herpes, then what?

by 1978_06, Nov 13, 2003 12:00AM
I've read alot on this subject. I've been tested for pretty much everthnig. Let me start from the begining. I had unprotected sex with this women I knew. We only had sex once, oral sex was also in done. The very next day (8 hours later) I had this uncomfortable feeling, tingling on my penis head. Just on the head. Then a couple of days later I had this red rash spot of the top of the penis head (I'm circimsized). I went then to the doctor to get it checked out. He did the all the blood test and said he didn't think it was herpes.
I told him I had to urinate often, red rash on the penis head. Discomfort in penis.
Then I went back 2 weeks later to have more test done because I had more

Here are all my symptoms in details:

-Next day (8h later) discomfort in penis.
-Urinate often (3 days)
-Red spot (rash) appeared after 1 weeks on top of head
-Tip of head sensitive (2 weeks)
-Scrotum, BRIGHT red, very swollen and feels really hot (urine very bight yellow) (only for 1 month) no other signs at this time.
-Bump or red lesion/cut at opening of urethra (bottom). (4 months still there never completely healed)
-Very sensitive when rubbing against boxers (NOT to the touch though) sensitivity only for about 2 weeks).
-Anal discomfort at the same time of penile bump. (4 months)
-Some discharge clear/light grey
-Pain tingling in back of legs (especially when sitting) comes and goes
-Head of penis is very swollen (all the time)
-Skin looks very scaly and lost it’s elasticity.
-Headaches almost every day (I almost never got headaches before hand)
-Anal bumps (thought of hemorrhoids but not the same thing) comes and goes
- Redness on head comes and goes (it could be fine before I go urinate and then after that it’s red with patchy white spots. (3 months)
-3 warts have developed on palms of hands (one red pimple like bump)
-Red pimple like bumps on upper arms (hundreds) don’t ever go away completely.(2 months)
-Pubic hair itchy, red bumps in that area and sensitive (occasionally).
-Pimples in tights.
-Started to have abdominal pain for the past month(on both sides)

I've had a whole bunch of creams and gels to put on the effected area and nothing works. I've had the area cultured turned out negative. But they all say (2 physicians and 2 dermathologists)there is nothing there to culture.
Should I go again and be asked to take a different medication?
What is your take on this?

Thanks for taking the time to read all this info.

I'm afraid I have no idea how to tie up the bewildering variety of symptoms and signs you list: redness, bumps, scaling, headaches, warts, bumps, abdominal pain--why would you think all these are related?  And why should these be symptoms of an STD?

As I've told many respondents, sometimes you have to take yes for an answer.  If 4 doctors have examined and tested you and told you you don't have herpes or an STD, maybe you ought to believe them and move on.

Best.

Reading this post makes me think of the past 8 months of my life.  i too have posted here and Dr. Rockoff probably remembers my posts.
My concern was and has been that i was afraid i had caught an STD.  Like this post, things for me are still uncertain.  Each time i get a test performed and results their is always some type of explanation and the simple fact that these new and different conditions persists on my penis and can be connected to unprotected sex.
in Europe, doctors use a different standard for diagnosing herpes infections and beleive that herpes presents in more than the typical manner we all read about.  This fact has only fueled my concern.
for me many things have been learned after thousands of dollars in medical tests.  i dont have chlamydia, syphilis, gono, hiv or Herpes 2.  I dont have Hepatits A,B or C. I tested negative using a intra urethral herpes swab.  that was great.
i do have antibodies to Herpes 1 as do many mnay other people.

So as an educated person i have also learned herpes cultures dont always show up positive unless you get the specimen at the right time, the right day.  hmm...more to concern us.  and yes herpes 1 can make it's way to the penis.

So i go to a counselor.  lot of help she was...tells me i probably have herpes, what am i afraid I would be considered dirty??  Wow...that didnt help.

so now i have lots of fuel that says there is actually nothing wrong with me....but maybe there is some new STD...hmm...so i research about new std's...nothing.  Hmmm...

But all along my penis symptoms remain...the burning at the tip...the slight swelling....the reddened rash that recurs in the same spot.  the urethritis.  the glans that just looks ugly...and red...and blotchy.  the sore testicle...another sign of a STD  the fact that every time I pee it feels uncomfortable.  Wow....thats alot to live with.

On top of it...it all began 9 days after unprotected sex.

but yet...2 doctors say it is exotic, another thinks herpes 1, my dermotologist has said could be herpes, psoriasis, i see nothing, you need counseling and my family doctor never even took the time to examine it.  wow

And all agree it may be nothing. Dr rockoff also said it was nothing, irritation.

so then i convince my family doctor to prescribe me a anti depressant.  now i'm not depressed but i do get anxiety.  he agrees.  Now i'm not saying i'm cured but I think it has worked better than anything i took, including valtrex, famvir, many antibiotics antifungals...ect.

the rash is still there but the urethritis has gooten a bit better and when i wake in the morning it has appeared to get a bit better.  it seems i may have to live with this for longer.

Dr Rockoff probably thinks we dwell over these things looking everyday, I did dwell, i agree but I also accepted it could be herpes and have a total different view of herpes since this began.  Would now date someone with herpes where as before i wouldnt consider.

Well for me i dont knwo....my symptoms sound the same as this guy....no warts on my hands though...but in my extreme times i have thought i had some bizzare symptoms too....

So if you have these probs...maybe try an Anti depressant...see what happens??

i'll update this in a month or so...or if it Flares back up again...to see if antidepressants really do help.

good luck to all...

remember if we had worn that condom we wouldnt have gotten so much anxiety from sex...something that should be such a good thing!!
