Information on Duac once daily gel

Information on Duac once daily gel

I was concerned about pimples i was neverendingly getting on my face, not many but it was still bothersome so decided to consult my doctor about it and she prescribed me Duac which I have been using for more than 6 weeks now, and my skin has cleared up remarkably. However, now im anxious when it comes to stopping the use of this treatment for fear my skin will go back to how it was initially, as i don't wish to keep returning to the doctor everytime the tube finishes.

So, my question is if i stop using Duac will my skin remain clear or just go back to how it was?

Hi,
Acne develops as a result of blockages in follicles. Hyperkeratinization and formation of a plug of keratin and sebum (a microcomedo) is the earliest change. The microcomedo may enlarge to form an open comedo (blackhead) or closed comedo (whitehead). In these conditions the naturally occurring largely commensual bacteria Propionibacterium acnes can cause inflammation.
Acne has a genetic basis apart from stress and hormonal activity all of which combine to cause it, so in all probability you may gat tham.Skin conditions like Acne are recurrent but that doesn't mean that yoy have to apply Duac all the time.
Whenever you experience an outbreak you can apply it on the affected areas.

For the first few weeks after stopping use of the Duac gel, you will probably experience a moderate breakout.  However, this should not discourage you.

The Duac treatment is a combination of clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide; these chemicals work to manage the bacteria on your skin, killing it and allowing for a healthier, cleaner complexion.  Any anti-bacterial medicine becomes ineffective after a while, as bacteria evolves and then resists the compounds originally intended to relinquish it.  That said, when you abruptly discontinue use of an acne medication, your skin will be rather vulnerable, and will likely flare up—but once it then heals, which will of course take longer than it would were you using the gel, the previously effected areas should be clearer, smoother, and healthier.

Basically, it will initially get worse, but it should soon improve significantly.

So, BE PATIENT.

And best of luck!
