Intense Nighttime Itching and Rash

by JennyC86, Nov 07, 2009 10:49PM
For the past couple weeks I have been getting rashes behind my knees, on my thighs, and my lower back and hips, but only at night.

At first it was only on the days I wore jeans, and now it doesn't matter what I am wearing, for a few hours every night I itch intensely and I get a break out of raised bumps that look like I have been bitten by ants. By morning I am fine and I don't itch and the bumps are gone. It doesn't matter where I am or what I have eaten, I still get them.I haven't changed detergent. I have washed my clothes and checked for bugs around my closet, home and room.

It is starting to drive me crazy. If I could get some advise or idea of what it is I would greatly appreciate it. Is this something that I should go to a doctor for?

Hello,
I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be hives. Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours.

Take some antihistaminic like Benadryl or Claritin and apply some calamine lotion on the rashes. If the symptoms persist then topical or oral steroids may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case.

I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
