Irritated genital area

by UpandComing995, Jun 15, 2009 02:18PM
Hello Doctor,

I've had jock-itch-like symptoms for about three months now, and it's time for me to see a doctor.  I have a red, irritated scrotum.  Also a red patch of skin on near the top of the penis shaft, and also red skin around the urethra.  The scrotum itches.  The scrotum and penis shaft, as well as the tip of the uethra have been experiencing stinging pains as well.  The symptoms seem to come and go a bit.  I've tried OTC topical anti-fungals and a vaginal anti-yeast (tioconazole).  These seem to calm the itching/stinging, but only for a few hours.  I have tried those for a few weeks straight.  Smptoms are still present when the medication is stopped.

Other points of interest:  My first concern was STD's, but I just tested negative for every STD I could test for at recommended past-exposure timelines, so I am confident STD's are out.  But during this three months, I've been extremely anxious and have very probably upset my normal immune functions.  I've also been checking myself regularly and noticed some small whitish-colored spots on the top of my penis shaft, just below the glans.  They are below the skin, much more visible when I stretch the skin.  I believe they could be sebaceous cysts... or perhaps all of these symptoms are consistent with a persistent yeast infection?

With the stinging at the tip of the urethra as a symptom here, would you recommend me seeing a urologist or a dermatologist?

Thank you.

These are symptoms of eczema, not yeast or fungus or STD's or stress or reduced immune function.  Try over-the-counter 1% hydrocortisone cream and set up an appointment with a dermatologist.  You should get better quite fast.

Take care.

Added:  I was considering a urologist because of the possibility of UTI, or prostatitis.  No pain when urinating, but I do tend to have to wait for a bit for the last bit of urine to release at the end of peeing.  Perhaps I should see both specialists!
