Irritating rash in groin area

Irritating rash in groin area

I have been experiencing a rash in my groin area, which began inbetween the folds of skin and has spread down my thighs, throughout my waistline, and even to my armpits.  It has not spread to my genitals.  My PCP diagnosed as a fungal infection, and prescribed a 30 day regiment of Grifulvin V (oral, began taking 2 days ago) and to apply Lotrimin A/C topically twice daily.  I had been applying Lamisil A/T for a week prior, with no improvement.

The rash does no seem to be typical of "jock itch" from what I have researched, primarily because there is no "scaling" and no "leading edge".  It seems to be more of "raised, aggrivated" bumps which itch tremendously.  I also thought it could be scabal, and used Permithrin 4 weeks ago....once again, the condition has only gotten worse.

Has my PCP diagnosed my condition correctly, and is there anything further I can do to relieve the itching?  I am currently also applying Goldbond medicated powder which helps to some extent.  Thank you.

There are other, nonfungal rashes that affect the groin, specifically irritaion and chafing.  These are best treated with hydrocortisone, such as the 1% strength you can get over-the-counter.  I suggest you try that for a week.  If it fails, see a skin doctor.  Oral griseofulvin is not an appropriate treatment for jock itch (fungus), and besides, this most likely is not fingus.  It also is most definitely not scabies, so please don't use any more permethrin, which can only further your irritation.

Take care.
