Irritation, Arms-Legs

I have red bumps, sometimes little tiny white pustuales, mainly on the backs of my arms between my elbow and shoulder and the same thing on my legs from my knee to ankle.  I have noticed a few people have redness or irritation in these areas as well, mine seems to vary on how bad it is.    The skin doesn't appear overly dry, so I am not sure if I should be moisturizing or what. Is this caused by dry winter weather, are these just common areas that clothing rub, or is it sweat related, or a combo?

Thanks

It's called keratosis pilaris, which means little bumps of keratin protein in the hair openings.  It affects just the spots you describe, and it's genetic.  If you want, you can smooth them out by applying an alpha-hydroxy moisturizer (Am-Lactin is one-they're nonprescription) and exfoliating after a shower daily with a BufPuf or loofah.  The bumps of course return when you stop, so people differ in how much effort they want to put into the exercise.

Best.
