Irritation on my penis

by Mattster, Sep 16, 2008 10:59AM
I've had some red spots (irritation) on the ring of my penis as well as the head for some time now!  I had it checked out last february to see if it was herpes and thankfully the test came back negative!!  The spots do not hurt at all....they just get chafed every now and then and make my penis kind of rough and are unpleasant to look at!  I've been using lotion to help cure this problem but all it does it makes them smooth and not heal the problem what so ever!  I DO masturbate every now and then...could this be causing the problem?  I also have sporadic problems with psoriasis every now and then!  I went to my dermatologist about 2-3 months ago and he did say that it could very likely be my psoriasis acting up only in certain areas.  Sex and masturbation, I've heard, can irritate it enough on the penis to make it a constant problem!  Is there anything I can do to help this problem?  Any cures for my problems?  Please help!  It's annoying!!

Hi,

This could be - pearly penile papules or fordyce spots. You would need to consult your doctor for a confirmed diagnosis.

'Pearly penile papules are multiple, small (about 1-3mm) papules running around the circumference of the crown of the glans penis. They typically develop in men aged 20 to 40, and around 10 per cent of all men are affected. They may be mistaken for warts, are not infectious and require no treatment.'

'Fordyce spots are small (1-5mm) bright red or purple papules that can appear on the glans, shaft or scrotum and usually affect younger men. They may occur as a solitary lesion, but frequently appear in crops of 50 to 100. They are painless and not itchy, but may cause embarrassment because of their appearance, or a fear that they might be sexually transmitted. '

Let us know if you need any further information.

Post us about what your doctor advises.

Regards.
