Is Soberrhic dermititus contagious

I have a sevre case of soberrhic dermititus on my scalp.  Is this by any means contagious or heretitary?  My son when born had cradle cap real bad.  Now he is 10 and his scalp is all white but not itch.  It is very flacky in globs.  His dr is treating it as ringworm to see if it will go away.  Is there any other way to help the itch?  With out medicated shampoos from the dr.  See I don't have insurance so I have been using Pure virgin Olive Oil in my hair to temporaly remove it then shampoo with Nioxin.  I have used the Tar shampoos any other suggestions?

Sebborrheic dermatitis is not contagious, but it is hereditary. So maybe that's why your son has it. I'm not sure on what works the best otc, but I've seen scalpicin advertised on tv for the itch. Salicylic shampoos are supposed to work the best otc, but it may be worth a trip to the dr to get it under control because at his age, other kids can be so mean and add to his difficulty.
