Is This Eczema?

Hi Doctor. I am a nineteen year old male and just last year I was diagnosed with eczema. It was all over my body including my penis. I was prescribed Elidel and after using it it went away.  But this winter i had a little eczema come back but not near as worse as last year.... but there was red rashes of dry skin on my penis and it wouldnt ever go away... and i didnt have elidel.  Now it is pretty much gone but there is a strange whitish scaly look right where the head of my penis starts from the shaft. Any idea if this is eczema or should i be concerned of something else?

Hi,

If it is a fungal infection then you would need local application of antifungal ointment; a steroid cream would help if it is dermatitis or eczema.

You could reconsult with your doctor and get  a repeat clinical examination; or you could take a second opinion.

Let us know about what your doctor advises; because nothing can be said without having a look at the lesions.

Post us about any other doubts that you might have.

Regards.

Hey, thanks for the tip. I recently just went to the doctor and he disagreed with the condition on my penis being eczema. He believes it to be some form of a fungal infection. If it were fungal wouldnt it have gotten much worse after the year that its been there?  Recently I noticed that the white skin on the left side of the glans penis has spread across the rest of the glans of the penis and i was told it wasnt any form of STD. but the glans has also now become inflammed. My doctor prescribed me a steroidal cream. Do you believe this to be a good prescription? Are there any other things I could do to help the situation?

Hi,

This could be due to acne/pimples/ or infection of the hair follicles called folliculitis or some bacterial infection/ fungal infection or some skin nodules etc.

Nothing can be said with surety without having a look at the lesions.

It would be best to reconsult your doctor about your symptoms if they do not resolve and get a proper clinical examination.

Keep the area clean and wear clothes washed in a few drops of chlorhexidine preferably and dried in the sun.

You could take oral antihistamine or antiallergic medications for the itching.

Let us know about what your doctor advises.

Regards.
