Is hair cast contagious?

I'm 28 years old and am suffering the condition of hair cast for the past 2.5 years. I loose lots of hair every day. I've seen several dermatologists and no one seems to have a cure. I'm using a shampoo 6% salycilic acid. I have a 10 year old daughter and about a month ago i noticed that she's getting the hair cast also. Is this contagious? What can i do? Why am I loosing so much hair? Is it safe for me to get cortizone shots in my scalp? Does hair cast have anything to do with cancer? I'm really concerned and extremely worried, please help!
