Is sunscreen necessary for overcast days?

Is sunscreen necessary for overcast days?

I have extremely fair skin and I'm always careful about applying SPF 50 sunscreen on sunny days. But I usually neglect to do so on overcast days (which there are a lot of in Seattle). But I read somewhere that the clouds don't block much of the harmful UV rays. Should I be wearing sunscreen even on overcast days? Am I sustaining skin damage even though I'm out and not getting burned?

Hi,

Yes one should still wear sunscreen on over cast days. This is because of the fact that even though direct sunlight may be absent, indirect sunlight may still have harmful UV rays.

Please note this is in addition to preexisting factors such as skin type, past lesions, medical advise and geogrphical location.

Hope this helped. let me know if you may need more information,
