Is this ringworm or something else?

Hello,

I have a small round red circle on my upper thigh that I'm thinking is ringworm so I've been treating it for the past 3 or 4 days with Miconazole Nitrate.  Last night when I got in the shower I noticed it has gotten bigger, about the size of a dime to nickel but now also has a puffy, swollen ring only on the outside of the rash.  It hasn't been itchy until last night, now it's becoming itchy with a slight burn feeling to it.  I'm thinking maybe I'm having a reaction to the antifungal cream I'm applying?  Any opinion would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks.

Thank you for the comment.  I did go the following day and had it checked out, and it ended up being ringworm after being scraped and looked at under the microscope.  I was told to treat  it with Lamisil which didn't work because it grew from the size of a nickel to about 3" in diameter.  I was then put on a prescription cream that was antifungal plus steroid which instantly began to kill it.  Thanks so much for the response!

Hello,
From the symptoms the possibilities of ringworm and nummular dermatitis needs to be ruled out. Nummular is coin shaped and may be itchy. Bacterial infections and medicines may precipitate it. To confirm the diagnosis I suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologists.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
