Hello,
Oral hairy leukoplakia is a white patch on the side of the tongue with a corrugated or hairy appearance and is usually seen in HIV infection. Until and unless the investigations for HIV come out clear after 6 months window period, we cannot classify it as OHL.
I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and regards.
There is a white spot on the side of my tongue
is there a strong possibility of it being OHL
As well the encounter was portected sex

Hello,
Since the initial tests for HIV had come negative, it is better to get retested on account of an unprotected sexual exposure. Confirmation is only done by specific tests for HIV like western blot, PCR and ELISA. These tests may show accuracy after 6 weeks to 6 months as HIV antibodies take time to develop in the body.
Although less likely to be due to HIV and more likely to be due to lichen planus, it is better to get a biopsy of the mouth lesion to rule out all causes.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Should i be concerned about having HIV?
Should i get tested again?
It has now been 6 months
is there a strong possibility that i may have HIV because of thrush?
Hello,
From the symptoms it can be lichen planus or oral thrush. Lichen planus is an inflammatory disease that affects the skin and the oral mucosa, and presents itself in the form of papules (flat spots) or rashes. Thrush appears as white patches in the mouth. Usually they can be seen on the tongue, inside the cheeks, under the tongue, and in the back of the throat. I suggest you to get an examination done from your doctor and get a KOH examination of the scrapings done of these white coatings.
To confirm the diagnosis, get an evaluation done from a dermatologist.
