Is too much steroid cream a problem?

I have been diagnosed with mild eczema on the base of my penis shaft.  I have 3 or 4 red area's that I just cannot get to go away, it feels dry and is almost painful.  I have been trying to not use the steroid cream too much but it seems like the only thing that really makes it feel better.  Should I try not using anything?  Would using the steroid cream too much keep the area red overall?

Would anyone have any suggestions on the best moisturizer to use in that area for eczema?

Thanks

Does eczema ever go away for periods of time?  I quit using my Aquaphor for about 24 hours and had a little redness break out again.

Am I using it to much?

I bought the generic version of Aquaphor.  My pharmacist recommended it for eczema.  Has anyone had any experience with this product?  How ofter should I apply it?  So far the 2 days I have been using it I have been pretty clear (nothing really red).

Thanks to all who support this forum.

Hi,
There is no known cure for eczema, thus treatments aim to control the symptoms: reduce inflammation and relieve itching.

This is best done by Corticosteroid ointments which keeps the inflammation under control.

Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema. Keeping the affected area moistened can promote skin healing and relief of symptoms.
Moistening agents are called 'emollients'. In general, it is best to match thicker ointments to the driest, flakiest skin.

Some common emollients for the relief of eczema include Oilatum, Balneum, Medi Oil, Diprobase, bath oils and aqueous cream. Sebexol, Epaderm ointment and Eucerin lotion or cream may also be helpful with itching. Lotions or creams may be applied directly to the skin after bathing to lock in moisture.
