Itching rash within margins of nostrils and below

by kselibrary, Mar 22, 2008 06:09PM
I am a 49 year old female with body lichen sclerosis (plaques located on back) as well as vulvar.

For 3 years I have had on and off again itching...primarily of the face and head.  Skin is hyper sensitive to any tickling of hair, etc).

Recently I have developed a purplish rash just at the margin of each nostril, not going very far into nasal passage, just actually rimming each nostril, and then coming out, to below each nostril.  It kind of looks like when you've had a cold and have blown your nose a lot.  But  unlike THAT, this itches like the very devil.

I have an appointment with my immunodermatologist on Tuesday, but I'm beginnig to fret a bit about this.  I have enough skin 'stuff' to deal with.

I'm stacking antihistamines and it's still itching.

What could this be, what should I ask him about, and ... well, any thoughts would be most helpful

Hi,

Lichen sclerosis rarely involves the face.

Here are some questions that you may want to present to your dermatologist:

I suggest that you discuss  with your dermatologist  the likelihood of  this lesion in the nasal area to be lichen sclerosis.

Also, what is the chance that this new onset lesion on the face may be another lesion with lichenoid features as in the case of lichen planus pigmentosa.

Will a biopsy be done?

Does the presence of lichen sclerosis increases my risk for other lichenoid skin disease?

Does hormone therapy play a role in improving conditions of patients with lichen sclerosis?

I am sure your dermatologist will be able to guide you with your concerns.
