Hi
A number of conditions may cause itching and scratching of the vagina. These conditions include vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginitis , vaginal candidiasis / moniliasis, trichomoniasis, vaginal irritation due to some contraceptive foams, creams, soaps or allergic reactions to condoms, diaphragms, hormonal imbalance during menopause or stress.
Occasionally this happens due to certain skin conditions affecting the vulvar skin, some of which may be precancerous
Diagnosis involves culture and microscopic exam of vaginal discharge, Pap smear, skin biopsy, and urine and blood studies (including hormone levels. You should consult a doctor for a complete clinical examination. The treatment options include antibiotic or antifungal creams, antihistamines and steroid creams, depending on the cause.

Hope it helps.
Take care

You should definitely seek medical attention.  You may just have contact dermatitis, but you never know.  In the meantime, I suggest getting yourself some vagisil anti-itch cream to rub on the area.  You can find it in the feminine section of most stores.  Good luck!
