Itchy bumps on scalp – please help and advise

Please would you help me.

I have bumps all over my scalp and they are very itchy and the red bits are where I have peeled the skin and it has scabbed.

I have had this skin condition on my scalp for the past 6-7 years.

It is unbearable sometimes.

I have been to the Dr in the past but they just classify it as a Psorasis – but it doesn’t fit the description of psorasis and I have tried the prescribed tar based shampoos and various lotions but none of them have worked.

I also get dry skin on my eyelids and the bumps appear on my face also.

Please help and advise.

The possibility of seborrheic dermatitis and the itchy bumps being due to folliculitis is very high. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp. under the nose or anywhere on face.

Folliculitis is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. The condition may occur anywhere on the skin. I suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

The dry skin also appears on my eye lids - would tinea fungus do this?

We had children at our daycare with sores on their heads.  The doctor said it was tinea fungus infection and needed to be treated with oral medication.  Our children had thich hair and you appear to be shaved, so maybe you could get by with a topical treatment.  One thing the doctor noted was that shaving african hair can cause red bumps due to some property of the hair itself (it grows in a spiral and is more likely to be ingrown, I think).  Go back to the Dr and ask him about Tinea and whether shaving your head might be making it worse.

You need another opinion.  When I was younger, suffered from Psoriasis; it phased out and now my itchy scalp condition is a combination of Rosacea acne bumps and some sort of seborrhea. Forget the medical jargon now.

I was given a steroid shampoo after 3 yrs of suffering with the itching...not so much bumps, and finally have relief.  Face bumps past adolescence: usually a form of Rosacea.  There are medications oral and topical to fight the condition which is inherited.     Skin problems that go on and on without relief are depressing.  So time to try another tactic.  BTW: the tar shampoos were what I endured years ago...Bleck!
