Itchy ear over the counter solution

Thank you for answering questions on this forum - your answers are very useful.

I have an itchy outer / inner ear.  It is not horrible, but it is annoying.  I have eczema on other parts of my body too.  Is it safe to put over the counter moisturizer on the back of my ear where it connects to my head and on the inside of my ear?  How about the prescription moisturizer I was prescribed for my body?  

On another post, I saw you mentioned steriod drops prescribed by a doctor as a solution to the inner ear itch, but are there any over the counter fixes?

I understand eczema is chronic so are there any lifestyle changes that would help (i.e. taking cold showers, special diet, special soap, etc.)
