Itchy neck and lower legs

I have been suffering from an extremely itchy neck and legs in the past month. it is so intense it wakes me up at night. my neck feels like it is on fire, tingly, burning, and like something is touching my skin lightly to provoke it. scratching is my last resort, I massage it, but if it turns into a violent itch, I scratch it like mad for two seconds. cold towell helps - for a while. it comes and it goes.
with my legs, it is even worse, I shave them - I can't stand waxing, and not shaving is not acceptable. when I tried not to shave for a week (very unsightly), the itching got worse. the skin was bumpy and red with patches on it. I cannot resist scratching. it is so bad when both my neck and legs itch at the same time - I feel it is going to drive me mad. the only thing that helps a little on my legs is cold natural yogurt. I have tried Reactine - no difference, and creams (you name it - I have tried it). now I use Aveeno for itchy skin. helps after shower, but that is it. the Dr. at the walk in clinic did not know what it is as NOTHING can be seen by looking at my neck. like I never scratch it. Please help me. I feel miserable and embarassed - being in public is something I try to avoid. plus, my doctor is away... any thoughts?

this is a patient to patient forum. the doc is not in, so that would be why it was helpful. not.
