Itchy raised ridges on buttocks

Itchy raised ridges on buttocks

Hi - Over the last few months, I've developed bilateral raised ridges of skin on either side of (but not actually inside) the buttock cleft. Though they don't look particularly inflamed, they're quite indurated, and the skin on the surface flakes off. Also, they're intermittently intensely itchy, especially after a bowel movement. I thought at first they might be fungal, but over-the-counter antifungal cream doesn't seem to have much effect. I'm rather at a loss. Any suggestions gratefully received. Many thanks...

Welcome to the Dermatology Expert Forum!

Pruritic (itching) intergluteal linear plaques might be caused by: psoriasis, contact dermatitis, skin infection (fungal/yeast, bacterial, viral), irritant dermatitis (frequent stools, aggressive wiping, irritating foods on your menu, etc.), and that is not the end of list of differential diagnoses.

Bottom line, this disease state requires detailed history, clinical evaluation and additional diagnostic steps in order to give correct diagnosis and most efficient treatment recommendation.  In the meantime, try to keep area clean and dry, eat moderately and not spiced food.
