Itchy scrotum

by INH526, Mar 21, 2009 06:13PM
I have had a very itchy scrotum for several months now, and around novemeber of 2008 I slept with a women and after than it started to itch. The itching comes  probly once a day but it was never to the point so annoying to go get it checked up on, but now im starting to get concerned. There is no sign of a rash or redness on my scrotum, nore bumps or anything out of the ordinary by the looks of it, at times it mite feel a bit dry on the one spot but I figure thats just from the scratching. I'm wondering what this could be and if the best option is to goto an STD Clinic? I want to know the steps to take from here, I'm left this problem far to long because it hasnt been to much of an issue but an additional question would be, is leaving this problem for several months have a worse effect on me? because besides the itching thats all it seems to be, and never gets worse, I can even go days without it itching, but I want to know if my first step should be to goto an STD clinic, or if there is a better suited place, just to get it checked up on

Hello,

The symptoms are suggestive of Jock itch. Jock itch shows up in post-adolescent men and hormonal changes during puberty, lifestyle and heredity each play a role.Predisposing fungal disease like tines cruris may also aggravate it.It has to be differentiated from yeast infections, impetigo and psoriasis which may mimic it.

Wash your groin daily and then dry thoroughly by pat drying, not rubbing. A hairdryer is useful if you have hairy groins. The damp groin is an ideal site for fungi to multiply. Also wear cotton underwears and change them twice a day. and do not share other people’s towels.Application of local antifungal cream(terbinafine, clotrimazole, econazole, ketoconazole, miconazole) and oral antifungal drugs are the mainstay of treatment.

If still the symptoms do not improve then pls get a clinical examination done by a dermatologist.

Hope it helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries
