Jock Itch?

Hi, everyone.

About a week and a half ago I had unprotected oral sex with another male.  I was only on the receiving end.  He stimulated my entire genital area, including my scrotum and inner thighs.  I'm not sure if this matters or not, but he had a very course goatee and he was pretty rough.

The next day, a red rash appeared on my inner thighs.  The rash had a well-defined outline and a pink center.  After doing some research, I figured I would try a jock itch cream.  I used Lotrimin (clotrimazole) for about a weak - which seemed to work - but the tube ran out.  The next day, the rash came back.  Now, it's just red with no defined edges.  It's not really itchy, and I probably wouldn't have even noticed it had it not been for the oral sex.  In addition, my scrotum now fluctuates between its normal skin tone and a bright red tone, and there is a slight itch underneath my scrotum towards my anus.  I bought more Lotrimin, as the tube says to use it daily for 2 weeks.

Again, I probably wouldn't have even noticed anything had it not happened after oral sex.  After researching the forums, it seems that the onset of symptoms was too soon for any STD.  Is this information correct?  Does anyone have an idea of what it may be?  I plan on making an appointment to see a professional when I get back from vacation - should I see a dermatologist, my GP, or an STD specialist?

And, finally, just so I can ease my mind until I see a professional, does this seem like anything about which I should be worried?  I tend to overreact and suffer from anxiety towards health issues.

Thank you so much for any help!

Thank you very much for the quick reply!

I looked up intertrigo and it looks like a very plausible culprit.  If the Lotrimin and general hygiene don't do anything I'll make an appointment to see a dermatologist.  Just to help ease my mind, do you see any evidence of an STD from this description, or am I being paranoid?

Again, thank you very much.

Hello,
From the symptoms it can be intertrigo. An intertrigo is an inflammation (rash) of the body folds. It most commonly occurs due to bacterial, viral or fungal infection. An intertrigo usually appears red and raw-looking, and may also itch, ooze, and be sore.

keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical zinc oxide cream like Sudocrem, Desitin are very helpful(apply with a paper towel and not directly with hands).Application of mild steroid cream like dermacort also helps. For the itching please take some over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin. In case the symptoms persist then antifungals may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case.
I sincerely hope this helps. Take care.
