Jock itch or similar? Diagnosis

Jock itch or similar? Diagnosis

Hey guys,

For the past couple months, the area on the underside of my penis has been itching and burning terribly. At first, I thought it was an STD, but every single test came back negative. This leads me to think it is some sort of jock itch/fungal problem.

On the bottom of my penis shaft, there are two little red areas that flare up. I have been using Lotrimin Ultra and it has helped a lot. I have used it for two weeks. Is that enough? Should I keep using it?

What do you guys think it could be? This has really been bothering me lately. Also, sometimes my anus itches in the same manner. I play sports and sweat a lot. There were many times that my shorts/underwear would stay damp/wet for long periods of time. I have been trying to keep the genital area as clean as possible lately and it has seemed to help.

This has been a very stressful couple of months. First thinking it was an STD, I looked online for answers. This was the worst thing I ever did because I was totally freaked out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again!

I've had and have similar problems.  My first advice would be to get yourself tested for a fungal infection, it could be something else, like eczema or psoriasis or sweat rash etc.  Regardless of exact diagnosis I would recommend to shower and change as soon as possible after sports.  Keep your private bits as dry as possible -- wear natural/cotton boxers which let the area breath, maybe apply talcum powder before sports.  Make sure to clean your arse well but gently after bowel movements, maybe by using dampened toilet paper.

Thanks for the response!

I have been keeping the area very clean and dry lately, and it has seemed to help a lot.

I have asked my doctor several times what I should do. He said to use Lotrimin for 2 weeks twice a day.

The red spots are very small and sometimes not even noticeable. I just don't know if I should go back and see the doctor or handle it on my own.

If its still bothering you significantly, I would definitely go back to the doctor.  Maybe next time take some pictures of the spots to show him.  If he's unhelpful, get a second opinion. It can be hard for doctors to correctly diagnose whether its fungal or whatever.  He might need to refer you to dermatologist.

Thank you. Would you go to the regular doctor or to a dermatologist?
