Just shaving irritation? Should I be worried?

by justmeonline, Mar 10, 2007 12:00AM
I have been in a monogamous relationship for 3 years now. I shave my pubic area a lot. I always have pimples after shaving. 2 weeks ago I shaved and after 2 days noticed after examining the area closely that amongst all the little bumps there was a skin crack (indented)and  there were 2 little hole almost or craters where it looked like I took out a layer of skin or nick? The larger one was maybe the size of the head of a pin. The holes looked red. I had been itching down there (as usual) after shaving as well so I didn't know if I took a layer off my skin. It was located approx 1 inch directly above the genitals in the pubic hair area. Later that same day, most of the crack was gone and there was one little crater left. When I stretched the skin very tight (to examine it) the skin looked wet(clear). But when I left the skin alone, it just looked like a red small hole.In two days, it was completely gone and never scabbed over nor oozed any yellow crusty stuff. I wouldn't have known it was there until I looked! It hurt like a pimple.
About 2 days later I shaved again and 2 days after that I noticed another little hole that came and went in 2-3 days. I don't think it was in the same place but the same area. Is this folliculitis? I have had that before higher in my pubic hair that looked like a hole rather than a bump, but that was after I picked at a blackhead that was indented already. If I looked REALLY close-I did-I think I could see the hair follicle next to the crater. Is this normal? I do still get paranoid about std's from time to time like herpes.

I think you are looking way too close.  You are describing folliculitis, not very severe folliculitis at that.  You might be better off not shaving so frequently, since shaving often leads to folliculitis.  If you're in a monogamous relationship, your concern with STD's may indeed be more paranoid than necessary, and you want to look into dealing with that as well.

Best.
