Lesion/ulcer on penis

Hi,
I just noticed the other day that I have some type of lesion/ulcer below the head of my penis.  It seems more like an ulcer, where its like a crater, but there is no redness and in fact is has more of a darker tone.  It the size of a pinhead and is rather firm.  At first, I thought there may have been a pimple there and it was popped as the crater sort of looks like the crater that is left behind when you pop a pimple.  I am circumsized and am in a monogamous relationship.  I plan on waiting a few days to see if there's any improvement, if not I'll see a doctor, but in the mean time I am stressing over whether its cancer or something serious.  Any thoughts of what it could be? Thanks!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
This ulcer can be due to skin friction also but it is important to rule out any syphilitic chancre. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by Treponema pallidum. The symptoms start with a sore on the penis which turns into an ulcer, which is called a chancre. The chancre heals spontaneously after 4 to 6 weeks.

So my advice would be to consult a dermatologist and get this possibility along with others like herpes simplex sores, granuloma inguinale and lymphgranuloma venereum( less chances) ruled out.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

forgot to add that the problem area is painless and it seems very shallow, maybe just the top layer of skin is affected.  After my last post, I got to thinking could it possibly be a skin tear?
