Lifelong mole now black with red ring...

Before: http://i26.tinypic.com/f28uaa.jpg
After: http://i30.tinypic.com/1zgc5ft.jpg

It's a little more raised than it was, much darker, and surrounded by this redness... it sort of looks like it might explode with blood, and I'm a bit scared by this sudden change (I did not notice when exactly it changed, but it had to be in the past couple days or so)... does anyone know what this could be?

(My mother is calling a dermatologist asap.)

Hello,
Melanoma has an irregular border, is asymmetrical, uneven color and increasing in size. If you notice changes in the mole's/mark’s color, height, size or shape, you should have a dermatologist evaluate it. You also should have it checked if it bleeds, oozes, itches, appear scaly, or become tender or painful. Otherwise it should be left as such.
I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
