In September a noticed an odd rash, sortof linear, on both sides of my waist about where your thumbs would be if you hooked them in your belt loops. The next week my wife left me, and I had already been under considerable stress. My stress level continued to be high, with my grandfather being gravely ill (but now recovering well), and other things. From September to November I used a steroid cream prescribed by my general practitioner, who said he hadn't seen the rash before. By this time it had spread to 4 or 5 larger rashes, all about 3 inches long and 1/2 inch wide, with jagged edges - red and the larger ones had stretch marks in them like if you pull a sheet across a mattress tightly, you know it gets those wrinkles
in the middle? Anyway, I went to a dermatologist and she did a biopsy and prescribed me tacrolimus ointment, apparently a t-cell killer. She said it was morphea and that the biopsy would tell us more. BTW, my father died at age 50 from systemic
growths, the dermatologist told me not to worry. The rash, she said, could last for several years, and spread over a large part of my body, but was not particuarly dangerous. Since then (it is now late January) it has spread around my thighs and groin
area, I have about 7 full size rashes and 4 baby ones. The ointment seems to be controlling the spread of the rash, but not shrinking it or helping it go away. Sorry I've written a book here, but I just wanted to give all the information. Does this sound like linear morphea? What is the approximate average duration of the rash when it starts in the mid 40s, if known? Some information I've read on the web said it rarely spread to the face, but other postings here talk about rashes on the face - are these the same type as mine, or does mine really tend to avoid the face?
Thanks for any information (if you're still reading lol),
