Hello,
Ok, so i have eczema. Unfortunately, i didn't find out until last summer, right before i came abroad to Germany (where i currently am) so i have been learning all about eczema without my dermatologist. So, over the winter i got very sick. I am usually not one to ever get ill, if i do, it's a mild cold during the winter. Because i was in Germany away from family
and friends (luckily i had my boyfriend with me) i wasn't eating entirely healthy what with having no oven, so limited cooking, and the strange foods of Europe, plus my living
(i didn't buy chapstick, i thought they would heal by themselves, and when they didn't, i bought chapstick, but by then it was too late). The chapped lips
. I did not have any idea what could cause this. I looked up symptoms, and all i got was herpes. But i couldn't see any sores, it was just my entire lips
that were oozing and sore, and also itchy. the only thing that would releive the burning was the menthol chapstick, which i used tons of. But they progressed to a point where i was in excruciating pain, had yellow crusty stuff all over my lips at all times, and could barely eat, talk, or smile, and it was so itchy right where my lips met my real skin. I went to the Doc, she kinda took a look, and said it was herpes. So i got herpes meds. My lips cleared up in about 2 weeks, maybe more, but then both of the corners of my mouth opened up, so another 2 weeks of pain for me, even with applying the meds. Finally it all went away. I think that was the worst month of my life, i was very depressed, didn't want to show my face anywhere, and could barely eat anything.
Fast forward to now. My lips got a little chapped one weekend (too much drinking, not enough water?) So i started applying chap stick right away. But i could tell, something wasn't right. I woke up 2 mornings this week (after the chap stick wore off during the night) with very dry rough lips. and when i pressed them together, i could feel moisture ooz out a little. so, after that sensation didn't go away the second morning, i started looking up my symptoms again. This time, eczema on the lips came up. it sounds more like what i had in the winter, and since i'm aware of whats going on now, i can look at my lips at the beginning stages, and kind of identify what they're doing. Right now, i have big red swollen rough blotches on my upper and lower lip. They itch already.
Is it possible that i didn't have herpes at all? That my eczema was so bad that it opened up, then got infected? If i do have it, what can i do to make it go away? Should i go to the doctors again? I have gel and lotion for my body, and i also bought Vaseline. I want to nip this in the bud, so i don' t have a repeat of the winter. Thank you!
